The Sangamon County Historical Society, Lincoln Land Community College’s Community Learning program, and the Hoogland Center for the Arts are co-hosting a special production of “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Abraham Lincoln” Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. The production is being held in theatre three at the Hoogland Center, 420 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

The concept of six degrees of separation, that all people are interrelated somehow within degrees is an idea first presented by Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy. The concept has been fostered through research of mathematicians, and became well-known when a play and subsequent movie of that title were created in the 1990s. It also became a popular game in recent years as college students encountered the ideas in classes and turned it into a game based on the movie career of actor Kevin Bacon.

The program features various individuals who interpret the lives of several Illinois residents from the 1850s to the 1980s, many of whom have Springfield connections. The production features Fritz Klein as Lincoln. Klein has performed as the nation’s 16th president for more than 30 years. The cast also includes other local residents Jeannie Alexander, Kathryn Harris, Doug Kamholz, Brian “Fox” Ellis, Don and Linda Schneider, and Tom Irwin.

Tickets are $18 per person or $16 for seniors and can be ordered through the Hoogland Center box office by calling 523.2787 or by going online at
