United States involvement in two famous foreign wars and the ways in which we remember these events will be the subject of the Sangamon County Historical Society's November program commemorating Veteran's Day.  The program will be held at 5:30 pm, Tuesday, November 5 at Brookens Auditorium on the University of Illinois Springfield campus.

Panelists will include Cecilia Stiles Cornell, Ph.D., an associate professor at UIS, who will address the ways in which we remember both wars.  She teaches 20th Century American History and U.S. Foreign Relations.

Mark DePue, Ph.D., director of oral history at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, will discuss his work with military veterans in Illinois.

Kenneth "Tuck" Belton, a World War II veteran and B-17 pilot whose plane was shot down over Holland in early 1945.  He spent several months with the Dutch underground.

Bernie Goulet, a Korean War Veteran who served with the 7th Division during the first tumultuous year of the Korean War, including the battle around the Chosin Reservoir against the Communist Chinese.

Both veterans have shared their experiences with DePue for the Presidential Library's Oral History project.

The program is free and open to the public.
