Want to learn more about the public land survey system developed by Thomas Jefferson or Abraham Lincoln's early career as a surveyor?  Join the Sangamon County Historical Society on January 8, 2013 on a tour of the 10,000 square foot facility on the north side of the Old State Capitol Plaza in Springfield.

The Museum, which opened its doors in downtown Springfield in 2010, was launched in 1989 in Lansing, Michigan.  Exhibits include an impressive collection of artifacts, including original surveying equipment, as well as a 68-inch room-sized globe that hangs from the ceiling and animates dynamic images of the Earth's atmosphere, weather, and solar system.

The tour and talk by Director Robert C. Church and Assistant Director Matt Parbs promises to be an interactive blend of math, science, and history!
