US Grant, Stories of My Life

Ulysses Grant’s recollections of Abraham Lincoln will be the topic of the Sangamon County Historical Society program at 5:30 p.m.Tuesday, January 19 at the City of Springfield’s Lincoln Library, Carnegie Room North, 326 South Seventh St.  The event is free and open to the public.

Reenactor and history buff Larry Werline will impersonate Grant by giving a first person account of his relationship with Lincoln and events they shared. Werline will discuss similarities and differences between Lincoln and Grant, their interchanges early in the Civil War and their partnership to win it.

Werline, of Chatham, gives more than 100 presentations each year at reenactments, museums, libraries, schools, historical societies and similar ventures. He is a presentor for the Springfield “History Comes Alive” program at the Old State Capitol. He is an alumnus of Purdue University.
