The Music of Lincoln's Era

Abraham Lincoln and the people of his era enjoyed music and witnessed the development of an industry to support it.  

The Sangamon County Historical Society is pleased to welcome historian Christian McWhirter, who will discuss the music of Lincoln's era.  He is an editor with the Papers of Abraham Lincoln, as well as the author of the book, Battle Hymns: The Power of Popularity of Music in the Civil War.  

The local folk band, Wild Columbine, will perform selections from the music of Lincoln's era.  

Wild Columbine is composed of musicians Bill Furry, Megan Turner, and Sally McDaniel-Smith.  

The event is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will will be served.
