Sangamon County welcomed one ethnic group after another the last half of the 19th and 1st half of the 20th century but none that were going to make their mark more positively than the Lithuanians. The Lithuanian website provides a microcosm of the experience of most every ethnic group of the 19th and early 20th century. The wonderful part of it is that pride in heritage has resulted in this comprehensive picture of a people and is further enhanced by Sandy Baksys’ weekly blog with stories of people both ‘then and now’.

Thanks for posting this wonderful Lithuanian website with the terrific blogs written by Sandy Baksy sharing the past and present of this rich local history. I attended the dedication on May 19, 2012 of the Lithuanian Memorial in Enos Park, Springfield and what a moving tribute to our Lithuanian family and friends. This website is sure to bring back many memories for the folks and let young people experience in the proud Lithuanian history.

Donna, thanks for your kind words about the ceremony and the blog. They have definitely been a labor of love. Do you know any Lithuanians I should profile on the blog? Do you have a Lithuanian background? Forgive me if I know you already but don't recognize your name.
